Living from the Core

Performance – in the corporate world performance is all.

Grace – in the spiritual world grace is all; people who received salvation through accepting Jesus in their lives through grace and not through works. Performance then follows, but driven from our Spirit-filled core.

Living from the Core – through Filled, Faith, Follow & Fruit; Life is Jesus living in us through His Spirit. Christian life literally is the life of Christ. It is Christ living in us and through us. True Life originates from the Author and creator of Life – the One who said: ‘I am the Life’.

Colossians 1:25-29: I have become its [the church/Gods body] servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness - the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me.

‘Living from the Core’ could be illustrated by a tree, three concentric circles and the sun.

• The concentric circles represent the individual’s life, consisting of spirit, soul and body.
• The sun represents God the Father and God the Son.
• The tree represents the Life. It originates from a re-born human spirit, Filled by God the Holy Spirit. It grows by means of Faith and Follow to bear Fruit. The tree consists of Four F’s, namely Filled, Faith, Follow & Fruit – the essence of this new Life.

1. Our thoughts, feelings, emotions influencing us
2. The Life influencing our soul with its emotions, feelings & thoughts
3. Our body & senses influencing us. These include pleasures and pains we feel
4. The Life influencing our body. Healing.
5. The world influencing us. These include temptations and tribulations.
6. The Life influencing our world. Fruit for the world. Our impact on the world
7. God Infleuncing our life as part of the church, society and the world.
8. Our Life glorifying God. Fruit towards God.

The Core is our real identity – our new identity. The Core is the centre of life, the spirit, where the human spirit joins with the Spirit of God. Where God is on the throne of our hearts. Where God is ruling in our lives. The Core is the place of Filling. The place where Life originates. The Core is eternal, invisible and intangible.

On the outside, the human soul is temporary and invisible, but visible through expressions of the body. It constains our personality and emotions. It could be regarded as what we feel and think.
The human body is what we see on the outside. It is visible, but not eternal. It is temporary. It includes our senses of seeing, hearing, smelling, touching and tasting.

Spirit, soul and body make up what we are – a unique human being. God created us as spirit, soul and body, but not like a programmed robot. He created us in His image. As human being with freedom to choose. He created us with a hollow core to be filled with God, to be filled with Life, to become the Core from which we live and grow into a strong and healthy tree, a tree that reflects Him. A tree that grows from Him to Him. A tree that bears fruit….fruit that will last (John 15:16).

This illustration is a total simplificiaction of life, but used to convey a strong message people need to hear and understand today. We know that spirit, soul and body cannot be separated by clear lines as illustated. These three are dynamically integrated in complexity. (Jesus often used illustrations or stories to clarify his message. He simplified so that people could understand.)

God is three in one – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This is our God. We need to know Him as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He is an awesome God. We can know Him, although we will never fully understand Him here on earth.

• The Father created everything that is visible and what is invisible. He also look after his creation. This includes you and me.

Jesus is God who was made visible to the world 2000 years ago. People could observe Jesus with their senses. Jesus demonstrated Life and Love. He sacrificed His own Life so that we could have Life.

• When Jesus went back to join his Father in heaven, he promised to send His Holy Spirit to be with us for ever and ever. The Spirit of God came to live in all who believe in Him. Why? To guide, to remind, to council, the strengthen…to give us life – abundant life, true life! Life that is driven by purpose, Life with direction.
Christian life, true Life, starts with God and ends with God. Jesus Christ who is the Alpha and Omega, is also the A to Z of our lives.

I believe we should keep the Christian life simple by focusing on the 4 Fs:
To be Filled by God we daily surrender our life to Him (Matt 16:24, Gal 2:20). He is the new life in us.
We live by Faith (we trust Him) and Follow Him (meaning obedience and action) where the Good Shepherd is leading us (John 10). “The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.” (Galatians 5:6)
Jesus said in John 15:1-17 that we are chosen people with a clear purpose - to bear Fruit. We will bear much fruit if we remain in Him.
